The hassle free way to save every time you're paid

The hassle free way to save every time you're paid

What is Jars?

The Jars savings tool is brought to you by Salary Finance in collaboration with Yorkshire Building Society. The savings tool is a hassle free way to save for emergencies every time you're paid. And, once you've reached your emergency savings target, the savings tool will start topping up your existing pension contributions to help you save more for the long-term if you are a member of the BT Retirement Saving Scheme (BTRSS).

Having emergency savings on hand can help you become better prepared for any unexpected financial needs in the short-term, and your pension could help provide you with financial security when you reach retirement.

The savings are deducted from your salary every time you’re paid so you can save without thinking about it - and before your wages reach your pocket.

How does it work?

Simply select the amount to save every time you're paid and set an emergency savings target to suit your lifestyle. You'll get a new emergency savings jar alongside your existing pension jar. Your emergency savings jar is a Yorkshire Building Society instant access savings account.

Your savings amount is automatically deducted every time you're paid. When you reach your emergency savings target, the deduction from your salary will go into your pension, if you are a member of the BT Retirement Saving Scheme (BTRSS). This is on top of the contributions you and your employer are already making to your pension. The government will top up your contributions with tax relief – that's an extra 20p on every pound that goes in.

If you're not currently contributing towards a BT Retirement Saving Scheme (BTRSS) pension, don't worry. You can still set up emergency savings using Jars, you just won't be able to use it for pension contributions.

Let me know if you are happy with the above or have any suggestions and I can edit as needed.

Can I access my savings?

You can take money out of your emergency jar whenever you need to. Whenever your balance drops below your emergency savings target, your contributions will go into your emergency savings jar again. You can change or stop the amount you pay in, and update your desired emergency savings amount whenever you want.

Your pension can be accessed when you’re 55 years old.
